4×7 Sewing Challenge – Week 3

It was a slower week for me quilting as my husband was out of town, my baby was sick, and my mom was visiting.

Tuesday I went to my first guild meeting and joined our local NWA Modern Quilt Guild. So excited!! Before the meeting we viewed a near by exihit of Crazy Quilts at Rogers Historical Museum.

Wednesday I finished squaring up all the petals I have made on Chic County and put her up on the design wall. Good news is my addtional fabric is set to show up tomorrow 3/23 so I can continue on this project.

I did all the finally calculations for cutting and piecing on Chic County so I am ready once the new fabrics arrive.

While mom was here I helped her piece a back, sandwich, and straight line quilt her quilt. (She had pieced to top together during her last visit) My mom is a ceramic artist and this is her first quilt. I think she was relieved when she finished the quilting! (She expressed a new found respect of the work us quilters do.) We will work on the binding next time she visits.

Friday I designed my next project while I was on hold with Chic County, a Tula Pink Elizabeth Dresden Mini. Back in November with the #getyourquiltywishesgranted hasttag I had wished for a Elizabeth Selfie to make a mini for myself. My granter from Whimsical and Whitty sent me about a third yard of the Selfie fabric in Sky and Chain Mail fabric in Plum along with a complete charm pack that had a few more partial selfies. In January I picked up some other fabrics from the Elizabeth line which worked nicely here as background fabric. I worked on this all weekend and am ready to make a back. It measures 28 inches square so I plan to practice some free motion quilting on it. I am happy with how it turned out. it was my first Dreden plate and I really enjoyed it.

I am, of course, linking up with Berry Barn Designs for the Week 3 link-up. Big thanks to Sarah @ Berry Barn Designs for hosting this challenge it has kept me focused on projects for me me me!!

  1. That chic county is amazing. I can’t stop looking at all of the different things that go on in that quilt! I’m really impressed and can’t wait to see the whole top together!

  2. Even though you had a lot going on this past week, you accomplished a lot. Your Chic County is beautiful. Congrats on joining the guild. Happy stitching this week.

  3. Great progress! I’m glad you had a chance to get to a guild meeting. I need to schedule that myself now that my free childcare is back at home ; ) How did you sew down the Dresden? It looks like blanket stitch – machine or hand?

    1. Yes I used a machine blanket stitch. I hope you can get to some meetings. It is hard for me too when my husband travels, glad my mom came to visit.
